The project was created during my participation in a two-week residency at Tokyo University of Art in Summer 2023. During the time, we dived deep into the history and concepts of Avant Grande in Japan. In the process, I came across an intriguing idea: the notion that placing fast food in artistic tableware elevates the dining experience, prompting me to ponder if this contributes to the exceptional taste of Japanese cuisine. Exploring the theme of modern consumption habits and the art of slow eating in Japan, I chose to represent these concepts through ceramics. It's ironic that within a small city, there exist these two extremes.
To engage the audience, I crafted a small vending machine featuring informational cards that imparted local ceramic knowledge. My intention was to encourage the audience to appreciate not only the artistry of cuisines but also the craftsmanship of ceramics in Japan.
