Printing with natural dye workshop

To celebrate Earth Week, a colleague and I held a workshop on experimenting with natural pigment, encouraging students to use sustainable mediums for their artwork in the future. In the workshop, we mixed up natural pigments like blueberry, beetroot juice and turmeric and powder, encouraging participants to experiment the ratio of mediums (Gum arabic and corn starch) to find their best combination of consistency.

By experimenting, participant had successfully explored different styles in natural pigments. For example some used it as watercolour, and some added more cornstarch to thicken the pigment to build up in their drawings.

To encourage students to develop this practice, we made a zine on how to extract natural pigments for them to bring home, hoping to revisit the information we delivered during the workshop.
